Dear Galaxy Support Team,

I am currently using Galaxy Europe ([usegalaxy.eu](http://usegalaxy.eu)) to run the VGP5 HiFi and Trio genome assembly workflow. However, I am experiencing an issue at the `hifiasm` step.

The workflow runs successfully through the preceding steps, but when it reaches `hifiasm`, the job runs for approximately 20 hours before failing. The error message displayed in Galaxy is:

“This job’s HTCondor event log could not be found. Galaxy cannot determine the job outcome, the job may have been removed from the queue while Galaxy was unavailable.”

I have ensured that my laptop remains switched on during the workflow execution, but the job continues to fail after running for an extended period.

I would appreciate your assistance in determining the cause of this issue. Could you please advise whether the failure may be related to computational resource limits, such as memory or runtime limits, or whether there may be an issue with the HTCondor job scheduler or event log?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Welcome @ezintlem597

Yes, the job may be exceeding resources at some point during the processing. We would usually suggest at least one rerun but it sounds like you have tried that already.

Checking the input data would be the next step. In particular, assembly is very sensitive to read format and quality. We have tutorials from the VGP project that go through some examples of data preparation, including QA assessments.

- 🎓 [Assembly / Tutorial List](https://galaxyproject.github.io/training-material/topics/assembly/)
- ⚙ [Intergalactic Workflow Commission](https://iwc.galaxyproject.org/?q=vgp) (q=vgp)

From there, we might be able to help more here. Would you like to [generate a share link to your history](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/histories_sharing.html) and post that back in a reply for troubleshooting help? If you are using a workflow, you could instead post back the invocation share link, and that would provide more details about the upstream steps.

- [How to generate a Workflow Invocation share link](https://help.galaxyproject.org/t/gtdb-tk-version-2-4-0-included-in-my-workflow-due-to-a-broken-latest-version-2-7-2-is-expiring-soon/18459/2#p-43072-how-to-generate-a-workflow-invocation-share-link-1)

Let’s start there and please let us know if you solved this already! 🙂

Just so you know: Staying connected to your Galaxy account after a workflow is launched (or a job is the history is queued/executing!) is not needed since everything is happening on the server. It is only important to stay connected when loading data between your computer and the server, or when using certain visualizations that are communicating with your web browser. All other tasks happen on the server and you can come and go as it is convenient.

Thank you for your response and for the helpful suggestions. I am pleased to report that I have resolved the issue, and the hifiasm step is now running successfully.
