## Large Scale Data Analysis at Public Galaxy servers

The [UseGalaxy](https://help.galaxyproject.org/docs?topic=10860) public Galaxy servers offer accessible, scaled, computational resources for everyone!

You can work at any and all of the public Galaxy servers. Each hosts common core data and tools plus specialized server resources, too!

- 🔍 Where’s my data? Review your **User → Preferences → Storage Dashboard**.
- 🔀 How to move [data between servers](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/histories_transfer_entire_histories_from_one_galaxy_server_to_another.html)
- 🌱 [Galaxy FAQs](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/#account) for Accounts!

### 💭 Data Storage, Cloud Integrations, Record Archives

Analysis at scale means having a _data management plan_! Galaxy includes integrations to move your data where the workflows are then back out again into archival and publication records.

Start at **User → Preferences** , then review. Many are new and which are currently supported at each server is evolving! Please ask us questions if you need help. 🛠

- **Manage Information** may include Dropbox, Zenodo, NextCloud, OneData and others
- **Manage Your Remote File Sources** may include AWS, Azure, Dropbox and others

### **When working at [UseGalaxy.org](http://usegalaxy.org/)** 🚀

- [Help and Support at the US Main Galaxy server](https://usegalaxy.org.au/about)

To set where you are storing data, go to the [**User \> Preferences view**](https://help.galaxyproject.org/t/full-total-disk-quota/12521/2) and review the selection options for **250 GB permanent + 1 TB** #scratch-space under **Storage Location**.

Some ideas about how to use #scratch-space.

- Load raw sequence files into the temporary 1 TB.
- Write intermediate files to the temporary 1 TB. .. experiment with parameters.. polish your workflow.. then [rerun it with new data](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/introduction/tutorials/galaxy-intro-101-everyone/tutorial.html).
- Write final results and [associated graphics](https://help.galaxyproject.org/t/what-should-i-do-if-my-data-exceeds-the-given-250gb-of-storage/13193/2) into the permanent 250 GB.
- [Export your history to an archive file](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/histories_transfer_entire_histories_from_one_galaxy_server_to_another.html) and store that anywhere, or transfer it to a different Galaxy server, then load it up again later for full context preservation. You can even uncompress that archived bundle and access your files directly on your own computer.
- Create a workflow for processing, or extract a workflow from your direct work to create a pipeline → **raw data + workflow == [publication quality reproducibility](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/galaxy-interface/)**. Share and remember what you did with the summary [Workflow Reports](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/galaxy-interface/tutorials/workflow-reports/tutorial.html).
- You can decide where to write and store results (everything in your account, or [per history](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/galaxy-interface/tutorials/history/tutorial.html) or [per workflow](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/topics/galaxy-interface/#st-workflows)) and can move individual datasets between the two spaces directly at any time. View which storage space a dataset is currently stored in, and modify that instantly, on the **Job Details** page ([using the i-info icon](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/datasets_icons.html)).

📻 Remember: your _permanent 250 GB space_ must be under quota for new jobs to process.

- Rearrange data as needed, and consider processing in batches.
- Not sure where your data is? Review your **User → Preferences → Storage Dashboard**.
- More about [data management strategies](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/account_reduce_quota_usage.html).
- Using workflows? This [topic covers how to write your outputs](https://help.galaxyproject.org/t/result-files-were-deposited-in-different-storage-from-30-day-storage-to-permanent-storage/14372/2) exactly where you want them!
- More about how [jobs process fairly at the public clusters](https://help.galaxyproject.org/docs?topic=42).
- Working at a different server? [Create an account](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/#account) at this one too!
- 🔀 How to move [data between servers](https://training.galaxyproject.org/training-material/faqs/galaxy/histories_transfer_entire_histories_from_one_galaxy_server_to_another.html).

### **When working at [UseGalaxy.eu](http://usegalaxy.eu/)** 🇪🇺

The France server offers **100 GB** of short term data storage space for analytical work. In special cases, they may be able to offer more for a limited time period. You will need to contact them directly to make the request.

Please find the these details linked from the server [Terms and Conditions](https://ifb-elixirfr.gitlab.io/usegalaxy-fr/welcome//common/terms.html) page.

Not sure how to find the [Terms and Conditions](https://ifb-elixirfr.gitlab.io/usegalaxy-fr/welcome//common/terms.html) at a Galaxy server? Click on the ❔ icon in the very top masthead menu, then scroll down a bit to find →

 ![usegalaxy-fr-about-1](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex020/uploads/galaxy/original/2X/9/9d92ad90e56ea7807ed85a8e84acf8499f75d48a.jpeg)

### **When working at other Galaxy servers**

The contact for the administrators is usually in your original account activation email, or the server homepage, or in their directory listing here **[Public Galaxy Servers](https://help.galaxyproject.org/docs?topic=10860)**.

If you can’t find the contact, please ask a question at this forum. Include the server URL with your question and we can try to help more.

### Production pipelines

The public resources are considerable yet some researchers will still need to consider a [Private Galaxy Servers](https://help.galaxyproject.org/docs?topic=10861) option. And many will use both, together, for publication or other data sharing reasons.

# Happy Science! 🚀
