At the University of Hawaii-Manoa, I’m exploring how sensory genes or microbes affect an insect’s choice of host plant and breadth of host specificity, using the Hawaiian bark beetles as a case study. This involves building a couple of de novo genomes and follow-up shotgun approach for the rest of the clade. As a bioinformatics novice, I’m very grateful for the helpful community, training, and storage capacity on Galaxy.
