Hi,
I am following the Galaxy Training Network Quality Control tutorial and trying to upload the tutorial file:
female_oral2.fastq-4143.gz
The file is very small, about 132 KB.
I uploaded it from my local computer, but the dataset remains stuck with a clock icon and still shows 0 B in the History.
When I check the job information, the state remains:
ready
and does not move to:
queued → running → finished
The message says:
This state indicates the job is ready to be run. Typically this means a Galaxy job handler will schedule the job and place it into a queued state on its next iteration.
I have already tried:
• re-uploading the file
• refreshing the History
• creating a new History
• using a different Galaxy instance
• checking that the file itself is valid and very small
I am not trying to run FastQC yet — the problem is that the upload job itself never finishes, so the dataset is not usable.
Could this indicate a problem with the Galaxy scheduler, job handler, upload worker, or storage backend?

For reference, I’ll link the tutorial here:
The first step is to get the data loaded into Galaxy.
Try to copy the file URL and paste it into the Upload tool in a public Galaxy server.
For this tutorial, the pasted URL will look like this:
Then, click on Start!
This is my copy of the history with the data. You can import my copy of the history if you want! → FAQ: Importing a history
It sounds like you downloaded the file first from Zenodo, and I’m guessing something went wrong at this step, and that prevented the later Upload up to Galaxy. The URL method is much easier and is how most people will be working with analysis data as they want to avoid local file upload/download.
Please let us know if you are able to get this to work! ![]()
