Scheduled Cluster Maintenance August 4-5 2026

The Jetstream2 cloud, which services a large number of Galaxy’s larger (high core/memory) jobs and Galaxy Interactive Tools will be offline for scheduled maintenance from 7 AM August 4 to 5 PM August 5, EDT (UTC-0400).

:woman_raising_hand: Will the main server be up?

Yes! The UseGalaxy.org server will work much like it always does! You may create an account and make account related changes. Data storage and transfer are not impacted. You will be able to start new analysis projects and review your existing analysis, with two exceptions:

  • Galaxy Interactive Tools: most will be unavailable during this time.
  • Larger (high core/memory) Jobs: many will be unavailable. We may attempt to run these on a different cluster. However, should the job fail for an odd reason, you can try to rerun it later, after the maintenance period ends.

:hammer_and_wrench: How do I know if my tool will be impacted?

Compute intensive tools used for mapping, assembly and annotation across analysis domains are likely to be impacted.

:warning: During maintenance, failures from any of these tools should be assumed to be cluster related.

  • We can use this topic as a mega thread for checking whether a specific tool is impacted. Please post back with the full tool name, including the version from the very top of the tool form, and we’ll try to clarify.

  • We do not need the error message, since those may be unreliable for this issue. Input datasets and sizes are also not needed, because a job may be considered “large” due to the server-hosted data indexes rather than the user-provided input.

:man_technologist: How should I manage my analysis?

We will be managing the job queues! Any jobs that fail you can rerun after.

  1. Any jobs running on Jetstream2 at of the beginning of the maintenance will be interrupted. The failed jobs may pause workflows. Do not delete your work!

  2. Some jobs will be diverted to alternate compute resources during this time, but not all jobs are able to be run on alternate resources and will fail to be scheduled (remain queued) until Jetstream2 is back online.

    • If you job failed (red dataset), please wait until the cluster resumes to try your rerun.
    • If your job is queued (gray dataset), we will will attempt to run it once the cluster resumes.
  3. The number of jobs that users are allowed to run concurrently has also been temporarily decreased due to the decreased capacity.

    • You may still queue up as many jobs as you want!

:gear: Will other UseGalaxy servers be available?

Yes! Each public Galaxy server is independently administered and makes use of distinct cluster resources!

:handshake: Thank you for your patience!
