Good morning,
The awk tool references an outdated link in further reading:
Awk by Example (IBM Developer)
falsely redirects to IBM Developer
which has nothing to do with the tools and is, therefore, of no help.
Does anyone know the best practice to feedback or change this?
Also, I would be happy if anyone knows of a comparable website that does the same. I never worked with the tool.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, thank you @igor. I will check it out. I just thought it might be nice to also update the missing link at the tool and have no clue if this is possible…
We agree that updating the form would be nicer, however, for this particular tool that is a bit complicated for legacy technical reasons.
So, instead, I can suggest an alternative! The various AI bots are really fabulous with constructing strings with Awk (and Sed!). This is truly their strength: reading all of the tedious man page details and summarizing advice to achieve some text manipulation task!
How to provide the context
Bring up the tool form and copy the direct link to the tool from Options → Copy Link.
Paste that into your chat question.
You can also go further! Set your history to shared, copy out the link to a dataset, and include that in the chat.
The usual rules about protecting your privacy when interacting with AI will all still apply, so consider using non-sensitive sample data when building up a query! And, test, of course.
We’ll be incorporating some type of assistant to help with queries exactly like this in the future, but for now, this is how we are using it: have the AI suggest tools or parameter options to try for a specific goal, then go back in and use the reliable, reusable, human curated tools (and, workflows using those tools) for the actual data processing. Letting an AI do everything is not something we would recommend and this seems to be a common sentiment in scientific communities (lost reproducibility ).
Hope this helps and please see my direct message! We seem to have lost some of your posts and would like for you to please try again!
