Cannot "export history to file"

Good afternoon. I have tried for the past five days to export my history to file. When I select “generate direct download,” I receive the message "Something went wrong trying to export the history. Please try again later. " or “[Errno 2] No such file or directory.”

I have tried to copy my entire history or subsets to other histories and export those, I have used three different browsers and three different computers. I have tried to download individual files directly from the history, which ultimately time out or cancel.

Additionally I reviewed “https://help.galaxyproject.org/t/issue-with-history-file-export/4191/7,” but received this error "Value error, Invalid id length, must be multiple of 16 in (‘path’, ‘history_id’) "

Thank you for any further guidance.

Ashley

Hi @alpowell21
Something is wrong. You use 0% of 250 GB quota, while your history is over 500 GB.

Export to a file is very slow. I have not tried it recently on the ORG sever, but archiving this history on Galaxy Australia will take days. St seems you clicked at the link 14 minutes after the start of the export/compression. It is too early.
Kind regards,
Igor

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response. My understanding is that I have 0% of my 250 GB quota because all of my data exists within the 1 TB temporary (TACC) storage. I was unable to fit my processed dataset into permanent storage and therefore ran everything in scratch storage. I had no issues with this in my other replicate dataset (completed and downloaded, not represented here).

Second, I understand the export could be slow and in the past took about 2-3 hours, however when I go to export this dataset, whether I provide it minutes or days, it times out with an error after a few seconds. Those errors being “Something went wrong trying to export the history. Please try again later” or “[Errno 2] No such file or directory.” There is no export process following these errors.

Given this clarification, do you have any additional advice?

Thank you,

Ashley

Hi @alpowell21

Thank you for the additional information! It is useful.

I tested History export to a file on the ORG server, and ended up with similar messages, as you. My history is on a regular storage. It looks like a server issue.

Ping @jennaj: it seems, the ORG server has an issue with History export to a file.

Kind regards,
Igor

Hi @alpowell21 and thank you @igor

This is a confirmed problem. We are reviewing. More feedback soon!

Thank you for the update and for your help!

Hi @alpowell21

The history export to file function is fixed now, and my small test worked. Please also give it a try and let us know if you notice any problems. Thanks again for reporting the problem! :rocket:

Thank you for your time! I successfully exported and downloaded one of my histories earlier today, but I am sorry to report that I am now running into the same error with the second history, " Ep Alignment to Ipunctatus." This history is nearly identical in size and character to the one I previously exported.

Thank you @alpowell21 for reporting this again. I can reproduce. We are looking at it right now. More soon.

This is working again now at UseGalaxy.org, please try now!

Your report has uncovered a new small bug that we will be addressing. So, thank you for asking about it again!

Let’s leave this thread open until the bug is fully resolved. If it pops back up for your or anyone else reading, we can make the manual changes as needed. I’m not sure if this is only a problem at the ORG server or not, so if it is seen somewhere else, please include the server URL with the report of the issue.

Thanks for the feedback! :hammer_and_wrench:

Thank you so much for your help with this - I greatly appreciate it! I am glad I inadvertently helped. My exported history seem to be downloading without issue now. I will need to download additional files today and tomorrow and will let you know if I experience this error again. Thank you!
