BEAST 2 (Bayesian evolutionary analysis by sampling trees)

Dear Galaxy Community.

My name is Franco Ilabaca-Carrasco from Chile, and I am very interested in delving deeper into systematics, both of bacteria and fungi and parasites. I already have experience using Maximum Likelihood through IQ-TREE and Bayesian inference in MrBayes. Now, I would like to learn how to use BEAST2. However, I have noticed that it is only available online on the CIPRES portal. Therefore, I turn to you, who surely have more experience than me in this, to ask if you could install the program in Galaxy. This would also be useful for all of us interested in this type of phylogenetic analysis.

I look forward to your comments. Thank you very much.

Welcome @Franco_Ilabaca

We are glad that you are asking about new potential software in Galaxy! This is the right place!

From what I know, hosting in Galaxy for the entire package isn’t directly possible since this is itself an entire other web application! Now, we do have some other interactive environments included in Galaxy, so it seems possible that way instead. The design behind those interactive environments is usually from scientists and engineers creating work for themselves, then deciding to host it at the public Galaxy servers, too. I don’t know of any public Galaxy servers that have done that (yet!).

So, if you know someone who would be interested in working on this type of integration, they can reach out to the IUC and discuss cross support. If you don’t know someone yet, then even just having the post here at the forum might get some attention.

Others are certainly welcome to add more, or to correct me.
