Troubleshooting resources for errors or unexpected results

Troubleshooting

How to review your work in Galaxy, and how to ask for help!

:mag_right: Review the full Dataset Details of your job, including inputs, parameters and logs in summary format directly in the application using the :information_source: icon inside of any dataset.

:mortar_board: Is your tool included in a tutorial? Is there a better tool choice for your data and analysis goals? Does an FAQ have help? Try a search at the GTN https://training.galaxyproject.org/.

:alarm_clock: When working at UseGalaxy.org, UseGalaxy.eu, or UseGalaxy.org.au, your analysis jobs execute at large scale academic clusters. Hundreds of thousands of jobs process each month!

If you need help…

Please reach out here, at the Galaxy Help forum! Try a search to see if your question has come up before, and ask new questions. Remember to include enough context so others can help!

 The forum, chats and tutorials are for usage help. Be sure to include enough context for others to offer meaningful advice, see troubleshooting for prior examples. The community wants to help you and new contributions for solutions are encouraged!

:beetle: Failed jobs should be rerun at least once. Remember, thousands of jobs a minute! Persistent failures usually indicate a problem with the input data or tool parameter choices. The form includes the most important details about what data the tool is expecting to process. Most jobs that fail in Galaxy would have failed outside of Galaxy. We can still usually help, but if you don’t provide details, it makes it harder for others to guess what is going on. See share-or-publish for more.

:construction_worker_woman: Failures that you think are due to a server side issue should be reported so we can squash the bug! Our server status page can also provide some updates, see https://status.galaxyproject.org/.

Alternative support forums

When working at certain Galaxy sites, questions are best asked at the places the scientists who run the server host discussions. They can also let you know if there happen to be any current technical problems that may be impacting your analysis. These are the ones we know about…

:rocket: Server and domain-specific resources are usually directly on the server homepage, or you can search the Private Galaxy Servers directory. No matter where you are working, should you get stuck, please ask us here. If you include the server URL with your question, we can probably help you to find the best resources.

Thanks for using Galaxy!

:mechanic: FAQ: What information should I include when reporting a problem?

Any persistent problems can be reported in a new question for community help. Be sure to provide enough context so others can review the situation exactly and quickly offer advice.

Consider FAQ: Sharing your History or posting content from the Job Information :information_source: view as described in FAQ: Troubleshooting errors.
